Description

Erectile dysfunction (SD) is the failure of a man to achieve and maintain an erection adequate for satisfactory sexual intercourse.
The SD can definitely affect the quality of life of both the man as well as his partner . It is a very common problem that increases in frequency with advancing age and affects 1 in 10 men. However only 10% of these men will resort to a urologist for advice.

The two major categories of causes SD are:

  • Organic causes:
    • Neurological diseases
    • Vascular causes reduced blood flow to the penis
    • Endocrine causes ESDP . diabetes
    • After taking certain medications ( antihypertensives, antidepressants) etc.
  • Psychogenic causes such as:
    • The stress can be due to family , financial or social problems .
    • depression
    • Problems interpersonal relationships etc.

Risk Factors for SD:

  • Diet: Poor diet (fatty foods) may affect long-term blood vessels and blood flow .
  • Smoking: is the biggest risk factor for developing coronary heart disease , and also doubles the chances of Erectile dysfunction . A young smoker should be aware that it is twice as likely to present SI when a middle-aged non- smoker.
  • Obesity: the loss of excess weight will benefit significantly in erectile dysfunction
  • High Cholesterol: particularly important to maintain a normal level.
  • High pressure ( AP ): Regular monitoring of ( AP ) and setting when abnormal.
  • Physical Exercise: People who make static exercise without life , are more likely to experience SD . Contrast , regular exercise (recent surveys have shown ) significantly improves the quality of erection.
  • Diabetes: Proper blood sugar control and blood pressure will minimize the incidence of diabetes in the vessels .

Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction

Regardless of the etiology of SD , most patients will benefit from:
(1) medication ( pills )
The currently available oral treatment are :
  • Viagra 25mg, 50mg, 100mg (Sildenofil)
  • Cialis 5mg, 10mg, 20mg (Tadanafil)
  • Levitra 10mg, 20mg (Vardanafil)
If this treatment fails will look into more invasive methods such as:
(2) injections
use very fine injections with vasoactive substances administered topically to the penis like papaverine (more rarely now) and prostaglandins.
If this treatment option does not help, then you should :
(3) Surgical treatment - penile prosthesis
They can provide a permanent and reliable solution to the patient with SD The penile prostheses are the most sophisticated and modern device, the urologist can surgically insert into the penis.
Every day 70 men around the world are treated for the problem of SD with the placement of penile prosthesis! For more information please discuss any queries you have with your urologist.
